Meet Ringo & Abbey Rose! Their names are a tribute to their owners' favorite band, The Beatles. Abbey, originally named Abbey Road, is a two-year-old German Shepherd & Rottweiler mix. Ringo, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, is the elder up at 9 years old. These two dogs had contrasting personalities that seemed to compliment one another well.
Abbey was full of energy from start to finish and was eager to play with every movement I made. Every time my camera went up or her owner tried to make her focus she just got more excited. Her energy felt very much like some of the sweet toddlers I've had the pleasure of working with.
Ringo was calm, warm & inviting. He seemed to pay no mind to the camera in my hand. He had moments where the pep in his step picked up a bit and I swear he was smiling in some of our outdoor shots. But, my favorite shots of him are the ones with the stoic look in his eyes.
I tried to experiment a bit with angles I shot from and where to put my focus in the composition. I think my most successful photo from this shoot is the first image of Ringo: black and white, close-up and framed on half of his face.
My takeaway from this shoot is to remember to always try new things to keep my images feeling fresh and unique. Often these shots may not work out the way I had hoped, but sometimes, they work out even better than I had envisioned. And the feeling I get from the latter is incredibly rewarding.
